Winter Patriots by Phaedrus

 |
Thomas Paine wrote in Common Sense, "There comes a time
in the affairs of men when they must prepare to defend not their homes alone but the tenets of faith and humanity on which
their churches, their governments and their very foundations are set. The defense of religion, of democracy and of good faith
among nations is all the same fight. To save one, we must now make up our minds to save all."

Are you a “summer soldier” or a “winter patriot”? Make up your minds. We three, we small “Band of Brothers” who have
started this blog, have been, and are, “winter patriots”. We are in this for the long haul.
All of us have served many years in uniform in this country’s defense. All of us are well-educated readers of
history, and perhaps more importantly, our hallowed Constitution. We are “strict constructionists” in that
we value the wisdom of our Founders and believe that they wrote in that Constitution, in the Federalist Papers, in Common
Sense, and their other writings of the period of our founding as a nation the guidelines meant to steer this Republic through
the deep waters of history and away from the shoals of Socialism and/or Fascism and Anarchy. We increasingly
fear for our nation, and what it might become as more “Change” is foisted upon us by a federal government increasingly
deaf to the voices of the American people they purport to represent. Instead of public servants, the endlessly-returned
elected representatives in Washington and the myriad of non-elected Czars, bureaucrats and career federal staff in both the
Congress, in the Cabinet departments and executive agencies have taken it upon themselves to be the “Vanguard”
elite that has self-selected themselves and their elitist cronies to take this Nation in a direction that the majority of
the American people demonstrably do not want it to go.We believe in the Constitution, rule by and for the people of this great nation, not a privileged elite, and that,
as Tom Jefferson once said, “The roots of the tree of Liberty must, from time to time, be refreshed with the blood of
Patriots and Tyrants.” We will speak
our minds here, and expect and hope that you will speak yours. What we aim for on this blog is an honest dialog about
our nation, its policies both foreign and domestic, its military forces and commitments, and how to save this Republic while
maintaining those principles upon which it was founded, and while keeping faith with those people who have sacrificed so much
to keep it strong and free.
